Most come to recognise that it is a clever\u00a0 design. Because the door relies on neither a screw\/latch closure system nor a power closer, it offers:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Extreme durability with little maintenance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014our solid silicone gaskets last for years with little maintenance and can be quickly replace with an inexpensive standard gasket<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Enhanced safety<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014The door latch functions as a mechanical fail safe to our thermal lock system; it simply <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> possible for the door to freely open if any dangerous residual pressure is present in the chamber<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>One-handed operation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014The door can be entirely operated and quickly opened with one hand, easing operations on a daily basis and improving lab accessibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reduced Risk in Instructional Settings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014Because the door is nearly impossible to open without training, there is almost no risk of students, trainees, or unauthorised personnel making a dangerous mistake<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But because this design is less familiar, it can be hard to navigate for new users. Lee Oakley\u2014Priorclave&#8217;s Sales Director\u2014has been supplying autoclaves for decades. He&#8217;s seen end-users quickly shift from annoyed to converted on countless occasions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;It really is a superior design, from a safety and usability perspective. The trick is, you want to <\/span><b>follow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it, not <\/span><b>force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it. Let the latch almost open itself.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Open Your Autoclave Single-handed\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First and foremost, know that <\/span><b><i>you are not alone! <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It&#8217;s not at all unusual to struggle with the door latch at first. It helps to be able to imagine the internal channel that guides the door latching mechanism. Below you can see a standard front-loading Priorclave with the outer door panel removed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3256 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/PNA-door-opening-diagram-1024x502.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"502\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You&#8217;ll start with the locking door handle in its lowest &#8220;parked&#8221; position. Press and release the <\/span><b>DOOR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> button. The unit will beep. Wait about 20 seconds, until the <\/span><b>Door LED<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> lights and the unit beeps again. (During this \u201csafety delay\u201d period the temperature display will show \u201cHold.\u201d You don&#8217;t need to hold the button; just hold on and wait until you hear the second beep.) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now press and release the <\/span><b>DOOR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> button a second time. This releases the electronic lock (you\u2019ll hear it cycle). The <\/span><b>Vent LED<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will light and remain lit, indicating that the electronic lock is disengaged. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(Don&#8217;t try to operate the door latch until the <\/span><b>Vent LED<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is lit! If that light is off, then the lock is engaged. Attempting to force the door latch handle to move while the lock is engaged can jam the door.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once the <\/span><b>Vent LED<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is on, you may work the door latch as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Opening the Priorclave Door Latch<\/b><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nudge the latch handle up to free handle from its lower parked position.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The handle will now spring out into its unlocking position.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lift the handle fully upwards to unlock the door. The handle is now in its safety lock position. This allows any residual pressure to escape harmlessly.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nudge the handle down to release it from the safety position.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slide the handle into the door as far as it will go.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Click the handle fully upwards to its upper parked position. Carefully pull the door open.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><i>ALWAYS BE CAREFUL<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> when opening the autoclave following a cycle! It will be hot and steam may escape at <\/span><\/i><b><i>Step C<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, when the handle is in its safety lock position. Heatproof gloves and a face shield are strongly recommended.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2><b>A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words\u2014and a Video is Worth 1,000 More!<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A picture is worth a thousand words and many Priorclave customers choose to temporarily sketch a &#8220;map&#8221; of the door latch&#8217;s internal channel on the outside of their door, as a reminder for new users:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3257 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/PNA-door-opening-maps-1024x619.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"619\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Of course, if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth at least a thousand more.
