{"id":1048,"date":"2018-02-20T09:22:45","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T09:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/priorclavena.com\/?p=1048"},"modified":"2020-01-31T19:50:29","modified_gmt":"2020-01-31T19:50:29","slug":"fighting-spread-african-swine-fever-without-creating-new-crises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en\/2018\/02\/20\/fighting-spread-african-swine-fever-without-creating-new-crises\/","title":{"rendered":"Fighting the Spread of African Swine Fever \u2014 Without Creating New Crises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>African swine fever is a disease without cure or treatment that has a 90% mortality rate in pigs.\u00a0 It\u2019s currently affecting parts of Africa, Eastern Europe, and Western Asia, killing off backyard livestock that people rely on for food and trade.<\/p>\n<h2>UC Davis Finds Solutions to African Swine Fever<\/h2>\n<p>Esther Kukielka, a graduate student at the University of California, Davis, published results of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ucdavis.edu\/egghead\/2017\/06\/28\/live-pig-markets-traders-provide-insight-controlling-african-swine-fever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">her study into the movement of this disease, which is spreading via a combination of pig markets, infected feed, and wild boar<\/a>\u00a0 With no cure or treatment, Kukielka concludes that the only way to stem the spread of African Swine Fever now is through education and government support\u2014which is no small challenge for the impoverished areas most affected.<\/p>\n<h2>Saving the World through Sustainability<\/h2>\n<p>After education and support comes the treatment and cure, yet to be discovered.\u00a0 But UC\u00a0Davis has never been afraid to confront tough problems. More importantly, they work to tackle these problems without creating new ones. Keeping in mind that most research labs have a 400% larger carbon footprint than an oil company office, the University of California has embraced Priorclave\u2019s core autoclave design principles: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/why-priorclave\/quality-reliability-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">durability<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/why-priorclave\/energy-water-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">water conservation<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/why-priorclave\/energy-water-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">energy efficiency<\/a>.
