{"id":1117,"date":"2018-08-09T15:41:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T15:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/priorclavena.com\/?p=1117"},"modified":"2021-12-21T06:48:32","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T06:48:32","slug":"reducing-lab-autoclave-cycle-times-for-liquids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en\/2018\/08\/09\/reducing-lab-autoclave-cycle-times-for-liquids\/","title":{"rendered":"Reducing Lab Autoclave Cycle Times for Liquids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Power users are resigned to the fact that there are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/2018\/06\/28\/we-regret-to-inform-you-that-there-are-no-typical-sterilizer-cycle-times\/\">no &#8220;standard&#8221; lab autoclave cycle times<\/a>\u00a0(especially for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en\/liquids-sterilizers-autoclaves\/\">liquids<\/a>!)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They know that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/steam-autoclaves\/autoclave-accessories\/\">a little planning and programming<\/a> can generally prevent autoclave traffic jams\u2014but is that all there is?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Not any more:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Priorclave is taking action to speed cycle times for everyone.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">A Quick Lab Autoclave Configuration Change Slashes Cycle Times<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">This past May Tony Collins\u2014managing director of Priorclave Limited (our UK-based parent company)\u2014announced that the default Thermal Lock temperature on all new models shipped to North America would be set to 70\u00baC. (The autoclave door will <i>only<\/i> open once the load has cooled to below the Thermal Lock temperature.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This threshold was previously set at 50\u00baC, reflecting an EU safety standard that doesn\\&#8217;t exist in the United States (50\u00baC is roughly 120\u00baF\u2014or about as hot as the hottest water coming out of your kitchen faucet).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Raising the Thermal Lock threshold by 20\u00baC makes it possible to open your autoclave door significantly earlier.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In most cases, users can expect cycles times to drop by at least <i>30 minutes<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">A Word of Caution<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">The new North American Thermal Lock threshold of 70\u00baC is almost 160\u00baF\u2014which is indeed very hot, although still perfectly safe.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>For comparison, chocolate chip cookies are baked at 350\u00baF (more than twice as hot).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;Trained technicians can certainly handle this,&#8221; Tony Collins noted, &#8220;And many will appreciate having the option of moving a cycle along so much more quickly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As ever, we remind <i>anyone<\/i> using any autoclave to be sure to wear their personal protection equipment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In this particular case, we are also updating our North American manuals to advise that all users wait 10 minutes after releasing the door before unloading.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This will permit steam and heat to dissipate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But you don\\&#8217;t need to buy a new autoclave to reap the benefits of these faster cycle times: Existing Priorclave owners in North America can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/contact-us\/\">contact Priorclave North America<\/a> for assistance in updating their autoclave\\&#8217;s configuration\u2014free of charge!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Power users are resigned to the fact that there are no &#8220;standard&#8221; lab autoclave cycle times\u00a0(especially for liquids!)\u00a0 They know that a little planning and programming can generally prevent autoclave [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":1202,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[95,44],"tags":[343,335,336,344,337,338,53,228],"class_list":["post-1117","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-lab-autoclaves","category-news","tag-autoclave-times","tag-cycle-times","tag-lab-autoclaves","tag-liquid-cycles","tag-liquid-loads","tag-liquid-sterilization","tag-safety","tag-tactrol-control-system"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
