Behind a facade of bright packaging and colorful produce lurks the possibility of bacterial infections that can sicken, even kill. Americans are not notorious for their healthful eating habits \u2014 and it\u2019s hard to convince folks to eat more salad if they\u2019re worried the salad will poison them. Americans need to know they can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.priorclave.com\/en-us\/customers\/autoclaves-for-food-beverage\/\">trust food manufacturers to keep the food supply safe.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Dangers Lurking in \u201cHealthy Meals\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>The latest potential tragedy was in the Midwest.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2016\/01\/22\/deadly-listeria-outbreak-puts-12-people-hospital\/79175942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Earlier this year packaged salads were found responsible for a listeria outbreak in six states that killed one Michigan resident and sickened 11 others.<\/a>\u00a0The exposure was traced back to a packaging facility in Springfield, OH \u2014 to a plant that had already been shut-down once the prior year. Nonetheless, investigators still can\u2019t pinpoint how listeria got into the facility. Not knowing makes it difficult to avoid reoccurrence.<\/p>\n<p>Americans are at the mercy of largely voluntary manufacturer compliance with USDA and FDA regulations. And many manufacturers are at a loss when it comes to properly equipping their quality control department.
