How to Address Priorclave Error Code F007
By: Priorclave North America
Category: Lab Practices
Error F007 is a technical fault described as a “vacuum pre-cycle pressure loop break.” In basic terms, this means that the autoclave has tried and failed to create a vacuum in the chamber in a given time. This error only occurs on vacuum-equipped models, and only during cycles that use the vacuum pump. In those situations the autoclave creates a vacuum in the chamber prior to beginning the sterilization cycle. This aids in sterilization of certain load types. If the autoclave cannot create a sufficient vacuum within the allotted time, the autoclave will not proceed into the next stage of the cycle, and the machine will display error code F007. If you see this error code, it means that the load in the chamber has not been sterilized.
What Causes the F007 Error Code?
Several malfunctions, defects, or simple problems can contribute to the autoclave F007 error code.
- Vacuum Pump Issues: The vacuum pump might be malfunctioning or not operating at full capacity.
- Leaks in the System: The autoclave could be leaking in one or more spots. Leaks in the chamber door seal, valves, or pipework are all possible culprits. Failure of any of these elements can prevent the autoclave from achieving a sufficient vacuum.
- Blocked Filters or Valves: Obstructions in filters or valves can impede vacuum formation.
-
- Incorrect Load Configuration: Overloading or improper arrangement of items in the chamber can hinder air removal.
- Low Water Pressure or Insufficient Water Supply: No water or low water pressure to the autoclave and vacuum pump are possible culprits of vacuum failure.
Troubleshooting the F007 Error Code
Now that you know possible causes of the problem, you can perform a few simple steps to determine what might be triggering the vacuum malfunction code. Check these items, in this order, to try to determine the culprit:
- Check for Door Leaks
- Review Load Configuration
- Check for Water Supply Failure
- Check Filters and Valves
- Reset the Fault Code
The average user can work through this list, and often resolve the issue or issues themselves.
Check for Door Leaks
Is the door seal damaged or worn? A compromised seal will leak and prevent an effective vacuum. Installing a new door gasket is fairly straightforward, and covered in the Operation and Maintenance manual that came with your autoclave. If you need assistance or have misplaced the manual, contact us for help.
Review Load Configuration
Are the items loaded properly in the chamber? Crowded or improperly placed items can inhibit adequate air removal and proper vacuum pump operation.
Check for Water Supply Failure
Check the water supply to the autoclave. Has the water been turned off at the inlet valve? Is the valve leaking? Either one of these issues can compromise the chamber vacuum.
Check Filters and Valves
Be sure to check all your filters and valves for blockages. It’s easy for filters or valves to be compromised by debris, causing a fault in the system. Any number of mishaps can block a valve, including this example that a Priorclave tech recounts from a service call several years ago:
“A glove was blocking the vent valve, where the steam exits the chamber. A user must have placed a bag of waste too close to the port. The port turns into a vacuum cleaner of sorts during various stages of the processing cycle. This vacuum pulled a glove right into the valve. A foreign object like this can hold the valve open, preventing proper function.”
Reset the Fault Code:
It’s possible that the fault resulted from transitory debris that worked its way through when the cycle aborted, or was knocked loose as you checked through this list. Reset the controller and try again. Follow these tips to reset the controller:
- If your controller has a key switch: Turn the setting lock key switch to the enable position 1-3-1-3, then back to the disable position.
- If your controller does not have a key switch: Press the reset button on the control panel.
